Full Home Remodel FAQ

Louisville full home remodel questions, answered.

The 8 questions Louisville homeowners ask us most about full home remodel. Honest, Louisville-specific answers — not national averages.

01 How much does a full home remodel cost in Louisville KY?

A whole-home remodel in Louisville runs $100-$200 per square foot for mid-range work. A 2,000 sq ft home: $200K-$400K. Luxury finishes + structural changes: $300-$500+ per sq ft.

02 How long does a full home remodel take?

Single-story 1,500 sq ft: 4-5 months. Two-story 2,000-2,500 sq ft: 5-7 months. Two-story 3,000+ sq ft: 7-10 months. Sequencing by floor + room is the key to staying on schedule.

03 Do I need to move out during a whole-home remodel?

Usually yes for projects over $200K or longer than 4 months. We can phase the work to keep parts of the house livable — typically one zone at a time. We will plan the phasing with you upfront.

04 Remodel or buy new?

If you love your location (school district, neighbors, commute) and the bones are good (foundation, roof, structure), remodel is usually cheaper and less disruptive than moving. If the foundation is failing, the lot is wrong, or you need 2x the space, moving is usually the right call.

05 What order do you remodel in?

Top-down, structural-first: framing + structural changes → rough-in plumbing + electrical + HVAC → drywall + insulation → trim + cabinets → paint → flooring → fixtures + finishes. We phase rooms to minimize total project duration.

06 Can you keep any of the existing features?

Yes. Hardwood floors (if salvageable), original trim, brick fireplaces, mid-century built-ins — we can often preserve and refinish these. We will identify keep-vs-replace in the planning phase.

07 How do you handle surprises during construction?

Louisville homes built before 1980 commonly have surprises behind walls: knob-and-tube wiring, cast iron drain lines, asbestos insulation, settling foundation. We document with photos, price transparently, and get your approval before proceeding.

08 What is the most common scope you skip on whole-home remodels?

Foundation work. If the existing foundation is sound, we keep it. If it needs reinforcement, we add it as an extra. We do not recommend skipping electrical panel upgrades, even to save cost — 200-amp is the new standard.
